Who Wins Versuz? Jay Z or Wayne
-
@hollygrovemikey bruh my entire family from pops side is from the south, so I’m speaking from someone who has spent a lot of time in the south my entire life..that shits cap. Now do people down south play other artist more than biggie? Sure. But to say he doesn’t have a large fan base out there is crazy.
You niggas was wearing soft toe ree’s when cash money first started hittin, no disrespect to N.O. But y’all was WAY behind. Master P came and got his game from the WEST. Westcoast bad boys, TRU…all that Shit was off E40’s blueprint From Sik Widit
-
@12th SSLP has no skips, MMLP has no skips, and TES has songs that are still regarded as classics today, it’s filled with them. That was an era untouched
I’m not giving biggie GOAT status with a 5 year rap career over Eminem who at a few points was the hottest artist on Earth. Just like I can’t say DRose is one of the greatest pg of all time off of nostalgia and looking up old clips of him
-
@rodsquad nigga Biggie is regarded as the GOAT BY THE GOATS.
INCLUDING slim..this ain’t nostalgia, that’s just the facts.
-
1st lets not talk about 5 mic ratings. Didnt they give a Lil Kim album 5 mics? That shit is irrelevant.
Em is probably tied with Pac as my goat tbh. The only reason Em doesn't have more albums considered classics is because most of his albums had a low point or 2. His greatest hits catalog holds up next to anyone else's and there's a reason he has far and away been the highest selling hip hop artist of all time.
And regarding your last sentence I'm not in here asking you to take my opinion lol I'm just stating mine
-
@rodsquad Eminem show is a great example of a few of the songs keeping it from being an alltime classic. Shame because his hits on that album are REALLY fucking good
-
@yosemite_ham i stopped reading at 5 mics is irrelevant.
Bruh the source was the Bible. Eminem said his biggest accomplishment was getting unsigned hype in that magazine. By the time Lil Kim got her 5 mics it was ran by benzino. Biggies ratings came when that shit mattered and was ran with integrity. Stop it
If your GOAT thinks Biggie is the goat..ain’t really nothing left to discuss. If Rakim, Nas, 3000, Dre, snoop, Kendrick, so on and so forth all regard him as top 3…how can they all be wrong? These are the best that’s ever picked up a mic, all agreeing that big is top 3 ever. They can’t all be wrong Lmao. It’s not an old head thing, the best in his industry have my same opinion…it is what it is.
-
@12th I can't take a rating system seriously that rated Lil Kim's The Naked Truth higher than The College Dropout in the same year
I respect all their opinions and everyone else's who think Biggie is a goat. Never said anyone was wrong in thinking it. I'm just saying he's not mine.
-
@yosemite_ham i don’t respect benzino Era source (which is the era you’re referring to). I don’t even count that shit honestly. But everything prior to him and Dave mays being in charge was regarded as the gospel and they were always spot on. When they gsve Illmatic and Amerikkas most wanted 5 mics those albums became institutions, and are still regarded as such. The OG source was the most important publication in rap history, the only thing that comes close is Yo MTV raps
-
Benzino purchased the source SOLELY to give his group made men 5 mics (major controversy over that) and to wage war against Eminem.
He ruined that magazine for his own selfish needs.
-
@12th the older Source was a little before my time I think. I grew up in the AJ and Free 106th and park era when I was getting to the age of really understanding music. But I always loved and respected the hip hop before my time. Pac, Biggie, Outkast, Pun. I think that's why Em is so high on my list because along with his greatness he was peaking at the right time of my adolescence so it was a big part of my life.
I want to make it clear that I love Biggie and tbh he's closer to my top 5 then say the 10 range. There's just a few guys I would name before his came up
-
@12th you got Kendrick in your top 5 after his last album?
-
@nd13 Kendrick was never in my top 5 of all time, but he’s my number 1 of the modern era for sure.
My top 5
Pac
Biggie
Jay
Kanye
BlackthoughtKendrick is in my top 10 ever.
-
My top 5 and you can roast as you like
Pac
Em
Kanye
Wayne
OutkastIt's honestly really hard to just name 5

Swap biggie for Kanye and that’s a solid list
-
@ogstank_ lol I feel you but Kanye's first 5 album run is one of the best stretches of music I've ever seen from an artist
-
@yosemite_ham yeah I’m a little older so i grew up watching Yo MTV raps, RAP city, The BOX, etc. i remember going to tower records and staying in there reading the new source from front to back. Seeing who got 5 mics, the hip hop quotable or the unsigned hype award. By the time 106 and park dropped i was in high school. I was actually pretty cool with the kid Jin irl and seeing him win freestyle Friday was dope. I’m lucky cause i got to witness the culture shift through various eras, so i feel like i can understand it a lot more well rounded. I saw when pac first dropped Stictly, i Saw the impact of all eyes on me…i bought ready to die on release day, i copped Overly dedicated from Kendrick himself lol! So these moments, i feel them as they come from a person who’s been lucky enough to see it from the early 90’s.
I got a lot of love for a gang of new era artist, but if I’m being 100% honest…only one of them has had the kind of make the world stop and listen impact that biggie had and that’s Kendrick (also Kanye but i wouldn’t consider him new era)
-
@yosemite_ham but the drop off tho. Everything after Yeezus was mid mostly. Pablo had a couple of legit songs where he actually had bars (No More Parties in LA and FML)
Everything after feels like a satirization of his career

Facts, he’s top 5 off that alone.
Only 3 other artist have had 4-5 consecutive classics
Cube
Common
KendrickThat shit is incredibly hard to pull off
-
@12th that Jin run was crazy. Dope that you knew him personally. I remember freestyle Friday in its early days was one of my favorite segments of TV for the week. I remember the first winner Posterboy blowing my mind lmao
-
@yosemite_ham yeah bro, he was hella cool too. I remember bring hype when he won the first one. He used to jump in battles with dudes like Shellz, Eyedea, immortal technique, etc…that’s how we became cool. Haven’t talked to that guy in YEARS. Good times.

Compared to Cali, ATL etc… Yeah New Orleans is always late… And Master P blew up on the west coast not in New Orleans.. Cash Money is New Orleans, UNLV, BG, Juve, Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh, Partner n crime, bounce…. Soulja Slim… I don’t think people from my city care for lyricist and East coast rap like that. It’s beats and hooks.
Our music is not influenced by west coast. It’s got it’s own swag. New Orleans bounce is kinda like what Drake had on that “KeKe do you love me beat” that’s New Orleans music. Most of the music is either straight up party music or straight up gangster. Growing up.. I can honestly say this city supported its on artist. I don’t think I’ve ever pulled up on somebody and they was playing Biggie. Put him and Pac.. Pac got way more love here.
-
@12th your favorite rapper circa 1986
-
@12th cube was on a tear. Lethal Injection for me was the best. Too bad he went all Hollywood, he was incredible.

Future vs Kendrick
