The impending implosion of the Los Angeles Lakers season, what went wrong?
-
I watched nearly every game of the lakers this season and this roster is really bad constructed even without injuries it looks really bad and old. Here are the hard truths.
RWB one of most inefficient players in the league and decision making of high school PG plus leads the league in turnovers. And from watching the games his plays is demoralizing for the team with always bad clutch decision making(FG% 45.1 FG3% 30.4)
Carmelo and RWB are awful defenders
Talen Horton Tucker (FG% 38 FG3% 23) one of the most overrated prospect in the league basically a chucker without defense.
The spacing is awful around lebron with two players always around him on the court who can't shoot which lead to heavy contested drives to the basket.
AD have no energy plus have lost his outside shot FG%3 17.9All this will eventually lead to Frank Vogel getting fired because they choosed RWB over Buddy Hield and THT over Kyle Lowry last season. And most of the blame is on Lebron for his push to get RWB.
They can change this if they sit RWB cut Melo and Deandre Jordan, space the floor with defenders and shooters around LBJ and AD. But this makes to much sense so the just gonna implode in the PLAY-In Tournament or First around with RWB leading the way with another Triple Dub like last night FG 4-20 and a BIG L.
-
Lakers about to go on a 20 game win streak now lol
-
@sg24 Lebron have scored the most points in the NBA the last 8 games and they are 3-5 in that stretch plus the have the hardest schedule left in the league.
-
It’s legit all Westbrook
-
guys you gotta give Russ till the all star break to figure it out it’s all part of his game.
-
@jdealla This is sarcasm right?
-
@dreamcheese said in The impending implosion of the Los Angeles Lakers season, what went wrong?:
@jdealla This is sarcasm right?
No.
-
AD was supposed to be a top 10 player but he sucks and he’s injury prone
-
@atgalex Its crazy how injury prone he is considering how soft the league is now.
-
Its all on Pelinka and Bron & AD if its true they wanted the Westbrook trade more than Hield..
The roster is nowhere near the level of last year.. Most of the rotation is non Nba level players. DJ, Melo, Rondo, Bazemore etc shouldnt play legit NBA minutes, here sometimes Melo plays 30+ mins its nonsense.
Everything from the offseason pointed for a disaster, too many new faces, zero chemistry. Vogel is a defensive minded coach so he is also fucked by Pelinka cause he cant do shit with this roster of course.. and our offense is the bigger problem, not the defense.
The rebuild will be more painful cause we got zero assets and traded all of our 1st rounders in the past years. -
@dreamcheese it’s a correction of the idea known as the RWB Casual Fan Narrative
-
turnovers do not matter- they are all part of his game.
W/L record - obviously he’s been on bad teams so this doesn’t matter either.
and judging him before the all star game is for casuals- he figures everything out and leads his teams to glory after the break. I mean look just at what he did in Washington.
-
-
@kmart hahaha it was sarcasm like I said.
-
-
@sg24 The problem is that both LBJ and RWB play best with 4 shooters around them.
-
@jdealla you would have been successful trolling if you didn’t mention W/L record lol
-
Carmelo has played the best defense of his career in my opinion, not great but ok.
Westbrook missing layups and turning over the ball is what’s killing them, you can see from the looks on teammates faces when he does it, it kills any momentum.
-
@pandemicp damn I kind of forgot the details lol
-
I’m pretty sure the entire Lakers team is fed up with Russ. I saw he nearly threw a turnover on the inbounds in the clutch and Melo cursed him out and did the inbounds instead.
-
This dude better than Russ
-
@jdealla I hope people not just saying he can have 5+ TOs and above criticism though cause that’s bs.
Since we all know who he is I just say he has to do one or the other. Shoot well with TOs or contribute in other ways and keep the TOs down.
When he does both is where it kills his teams.
-
Fuck it.. I’ll do Pelinka’s job for him
-
-
@hollygrovemikey lmao
-
Lakers : haha, look at Rockets in playoffs we just gonna sag off of Westbrook at let him either shoot or drive into a wall of defenders.
Lakers win nba that year and somehow come to a conclusion to eventually trade for same, but even older and more declined Westbrook.
-
@knezius The scouting of LBJ paid off...
-
Coaching staff is fucking up.
They should run more sets with bron off the ball or as a screener/roller.
Not sure why russ and bron dont run off each other more often
-
It’s insane given his salary, but the answer might be Point Bron with RWB coming off the bench to run the second unit. Competing against backups is perfect for Russ’ ball-dominant play style.
-
@jase RWB Ego will not permit this trust me on that.
-
@dreamcheese That’s the test, isn’t it? What does Russ want more: prestige or wins? Because this current setup isn’t working.
-
@jase Do you think someone who earns 44 million a year will accept 6thman role
-
The Lakers implosion started with Jerry Buss dying and giving the reins to his fail children instead of hiring someone competent.
-

If Vogel and Pelinka decide that’s the move, Russ has to go along with it. But he can of course make life very difficult for the Lakers if he sulks, lashes out, demands a trade, etc.
Lakers are painted into a corner. If Russ is still starting for this squad come March, you’re looking at a team that will be lucky to win the play-in tourney.
-
Who would have thought over paying a bunch of Klutch associates and aging stars wasn’t gonna work?

“Russ, get us more than a washing machine and cash considerations and you can go where the fuck you want”

Same thing that's been said for years about him. Most overrated player and MVP ever.

Lmao she is his biggest fan but I legit happy she got blocked
-
Russ plays good for a month very minimal talk Russ has a bad game the talks start this reminds me of Paul George
-
@ogxsuave Like said in the beginning of the thread I watched nearly every game of lakers this season and trust me RWB stats lie a lot,
his overall impact on winning is not big because he is never clutch or have good decision making. But the defense is abysmal though and that's the whole teams fault in many games. -

Westbrooks turnover blooper reel is getting out of control (at 3.30 min)
-
-
@dreamcheese wow can't believe it's been that long
-
-
Kinda funny that they are playing better now with Lebron at Center which are taking away many of the decision making from westbrook and now lebron are handling the ball who would have guessed(Everyone knew this haha). Gonna be interesting how the play when AD comes back.
