Help dealing with this summer heat
-
It's hot asf y'all. Does anyone have tips for staying cool while being exposed to this heat for 12 hours? Where I work it's even hotter inside than out (recently half of day shift quit due to this, rip) and I feel like I'm about to die. As long as OSHA won't kill me I'm willing to try anything lol

@impartevil freeze 12 packs of bottles of water and soda and put them in a cooler
-
@impartevil do you have a choice in what to wear?

This.
Slight modification. Put some rock salt in the cooler with the ice... And put some coconut water in there too with the soda and water. Coconut water hydrates really well.
-
@quantumkat forgot that part, yes do this man
-
@jdealla Yeah we can wear whatever, I got some clothes coming in from Amazon that's supposed to help but idk if they really will
-
@newsweat I'm going to get the cooler tomorrow, at least they're supplying us with water I'll just have to freeze it
-
@impartevil great job bud

Frequent breaks, or as much is allowable. 2-3 sets of clothes/underclothes, because you want to change out of soaked wear. Call me crazy, but i used to vizualize being cold af. The slightest breeze would cool me off.
-
@callmegit Unfortunately I'll be in a building so no breeze for me

The most important part is really to focus more on the task than the temperature and how sweaty you feel.
Life saver. It basically turns any beverage into a bottle of gatorade and it only takes a capful per 8 oz of liquid to do so. The 16 servings thing is only for the 4 oz bottle, I linked the 16 oz bottle which has 64 servings.
Ice water but even if the water isnt cold, drink the fuck out of it.
If you're working where you can catch breezes, definitely wear a cotton shirt and let that shit soak with sweat. It's slightly uncomfortable but every breeze will feel like air conditioning and even the air flow from walking around will cool you down.
If you're able to consistently get ice or ice cold water, get a hand towel and put it around your neck.
If you feel a headache coming on, or feel light headed, sit your ass down and chug as much water as you can. If you run out of water, drop everything and get more water, never work without at least a 16 oz bottle of water available and that will only be drank on your way to getting more water.
Not just a heat tip but a life tip, focus on breathing in a manner that will push your stomach out, you'd be surprised how many people chest breathe which is not the best way to get the most oxygen per breath.
-
Not a tip but we had a derecho roll through yesterday and knocked 80,000 people in my area out of power. (I live about 30 miles north of Dayton, Ohio) Not fun sitting in a 110-degree heat index without air conditioning.
-
There’s stay cold towels you can get too. You just soak them in ice water and put them around your neck…keeps you cool for an extended period of time. They do wonders at the gym
-
Get a cooling towel, soak it and wear it. Bring an ice chest full of water and Gatorade. Take breaks often. If you have access to a fan place it near you. On lunch breaks… sit in the ac. If you’re allowed to sit down and work, then sit. Lastly don’t eat heavy, eat healthy.
Also if you’re working inside… By opening doors on opposite sides of the building or room. You can sometimes form a wind tunnel and steal some cold air.

@508 Do those neck fans work well? I'm a lil skeptical

Yes I've seen many nurses use them at work
